Since your last interview here in March, what have you been working on?
The fact is I haven’t been writing much as I’ve been too busy getting my books converted into Audio and Paperback. There’s a lot of work involved in doing these things and my mind can only concentrate on one thing at a time. lol

Tell us about some of your recent titles.
I wrote “The Demon Ezekiel,” which is about an Angel who exorcises a demon. “Sleeping Beauties,” which is a twist on the Sleeping Beauty story concerning tooth fairies, and what they get up to while the women they visit are asleep. I had fun with that one. lol I also wrote “Three Days of the Yeti,” which has another twist, although I won’t say what that twist entails. The books I’m most excited about at the moment though are the “Steamy Stories Vol 1 to 5” which are a collaboration between myself and four other authors. I’ll give you the link to them so that your readers can check them out. We have them up at Amazon, Smashwords, and Barnes and Noble and I believe at $0.99 a book they are going to sell well. Here are the links:

Is the erotica field changing?
Not really, although places like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Apple would have you believe that erotica is not that popular. They ban it, filter it and hide it away, but people still keep looking for it. lol

What new trends are emerging, and how has this affected your work?
Serialization seems to be making a comeback, with all the billionaire stories making the headlines. That might be responsible for my recent slump in sales, but you have to follow the trends and keep up with what’s popular, unless like me you’re stubborn and can’t help writing what you enjoy as opposed to what others are reading in greater numbers. lol

With the high-profile successes of writers like EL James and Sara Fawkes, is erotica respectable now?
Ha ha! Respectable, no. Popular, yes. While these companies that I’ve already mentioned refuse to acknowledge that erotica is wanted and sought after, erotica will never be respectable. Having said that, I’ve just uploaded all of my books into the “Kobo Writing Life” site and they treat their authors extremely well. If you have problems, they will work with you to overcome them and their royalty rates are the best out there. Other companies should be taking notes. lol

Is the market shifting as, for example, Kobo have expanded and Amazon have opened up in India?
If by shifting you mean getting bigger, then yes it is shifting. There are twice as many sites for ebooks than there was a year ago and agents are now openly seeking out the indie writers with the right stuff, as it were.

Tell us about your typical writing day.
I usually do a lot of things first thing in the morning, after I’ve had my coffee of course. I will check my messages to see if anything important is happening and then my sales from various places where one can find my books. Then, I decide whether or not I should write something, update something or get something out there, like a new audiobook or paperback. After all that I might write a short story, or do some research on a story I have in mind. These days it’s very rarely all about just the writing aspect of it all.

What do you do for inspiration, and how do you settle on which idea to write next?
For inspiration I usually read a good book and if anything strikes me during that read I will get on it straight away and usually end up with the first chapter of some story that’s trying to break free. lol

Do you know many authors?
I know quite a few erotic authors and people would be surprised at how nice some of these authors really are. I know Delilah Fawkes, who I admire and consider a friend as well as Sara Fawkes, who recently made a huge deal with her latest book, and is one of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. I know Virginia Wade who I also consider a friend and who has an incredible sense of humor. I know Selena Kitt and Tawny Taylor, both of which I admire and consider a friend, and the list goes on and on. These people are my inspiration and I’m going to get to meet a few of them later this year, which is something I’m looking forward to. I also know Alex Anders who is without doubt the most enterprising author I’ve ever known. When he sets out to do something he puts his heart and soul into it. Like his audio books, he set up his own studio and went to work like there was no tomorrow, I admire such dedication.

And finally, what can we expect to see from you soon?
I’m currently working on “My Other Daddy 2”. I’m also working on a story that will be submitted under a pseudonym. This story will be more of a romance than a typical erotica story.

Captive at the Billionaires’ Sex Club – an extract

Posted 30 August 2012 By Polly J Adams

When Kate decided to spend the summer as a waitress at parties for the super-rich, she knew she would be moving in circles she’d never encountered before – a completely different world. It turned out to be a world of depravity and pure unbridled lust she had never even dreamed about. That summer, she discovered the Billionaires’ Sex Club. An explicit story of bondage, dubious consent and more.

Extract:

“You do understand what this contract means, don’t you?”
I looked up at him.
He was a man with authority, a man with power. He was my employer’s brother and he ran this place, this club I’d innocently stumbled upon that summer when I was doing casual work in the Hamptons to fund my way through college.
He was in charge.
He was the man.
Unlike his roguish brother, he looked fairly unprepossessing. A quiet man, a man of understated taste in his bespoke charcoal suit, his crisply cut silver hair, his kind blue eyes and gentle smile. A man you would barely notice, far less comment upon. A benevolent uncle, a loved neighbor, a respected bank manager.
I nodded.
“You’ve read it through? You know what you’re committing yourself to?” It almost seemed that he didn’t want me to sign. That benevolent uncle thing, protecting me, even though we were virtual strangers. “We have to be sure…”
I nodded again, and then shrugged, straining against my bonds. “I have,” I told him. “I’ve read it. I understand. But one thing…”
He looked at me, one eyebrow raised.
“You’ll have to unlock my handcuffs if you want me to sign…”

New: Captive at the Billionaires’ Sex Club

Posted 29 August 2012 By Polly J Adams

When Kate Vale decided to spend the summer as a waitress at parties for the super-rich, she knew she would be moving in circles she’d never encountered before – a completely different world.

It turned out to be a world she had never even dreamed about.

A world of depravity, of pure unbridled lust; a world of control and submission, of pleasure and pain, a world where the boundaries between the pleasure and the pain blurred, shifted, vanished.

That summer, she discovered a new Kate, one she’d never even known existed, one that would have shocked her rigid if she’d been aware of it before those few weeks working in the Hamptons.

That summer, she discovered the Billionaires’ Sex Club.

An explicit story of bondage, dubious consent, multiple partners and more from the bestselling author of Bad Again and Taken at the Club.

More links to erotica samples

Posted 29 August 2012 By Polly J Adams

Over the last year or so I’ve published a lot of erotica extracts here, but – because of the nature of a blog – older posts tend to end up buried away out of sight. So every so often I’m posting some links to those extracts, to help people find them.

Here’s another batch, with links to the extracts:

Flash Mob Gangbang
It all started with a simple message on Twitter, a spur of the moment thing. Kelly was bored, and so she sent that message: “I need to be fucked.” That was all it said. A simple tweet. What harm could possibly come from that? An explicit story of cybersex and an in-the-flesh gangbang, for a mature audience only.

The Rules of the Game
Jack and Karen live complicated lives and rarely get time alone together. So when Jack is called away on business on their anniversary there is a price to pay. Karen sends him a series of messages on his phone and he has to follow her instructions to the letter if he is to win — he has to play by the rules of the game.

Girl Talk: Sex by the Pool
When Stacey takes her new boyfriend on holiday with some old friends she realises quickly that it’s a mistake. She doesn’t want to be stuck on an island hotel with a man who is rapidly becoming her ex. But when one of her friends shows a surprising level of understanding and sensitivity, she learns that he’s always had a thing for her. Maybe this holiday hasn’t been such a mistake after all.

Sleeping with the Past
Estella Haynes uses her work to escape from a dull marriage but when an overnight stay in Copford Hall leads to an erotic dream encounter her life and lusts are reawakened. Can passion resonate from one century to another? And can Estella’s intense sexual adventures at the Hall set her on the course to fulfilment? Explicit erotic romance.

Pollygraph (interviews with erotica authors): Hunter Darkly

Posted 26 August 2012 By Polly J Adams

Why erotica?
I think in part this can be answered in the next question as well, but put simply, I really enjoy doing it. I started writing erotica in a period between novels where I had written myself into a hole and was quite exhausted with the prospect of continuing for the third book. Erotica came as a refreshing and welcome break that was also extremely fun to do – and now I am hooked. Whether anyone else enjoys my stuff as much as I do writing it remains to be seen.

How did you get into it?
I’ll be completely honest here. I filled my Kindle with erotica, both free and paid – good grief… it was like being a teenager again! So I was inspired by other writers really, the ‘I can do that too’ syndrome. At the time I didn’t know that I would enjoy it quite as much as I do.

What kinds of erotica do you write?
I’m not quite sure how to describe it really. Whenever I read one of my stories I often wonder whether they’re a bit too ordinary, a bit too British maybe. They remind me sometimes of the ‘Carry on’ films, though my tales seem to have a messier ending. I quite enjoy giving ‘ordinary characters’ a jolly good time. It’s not very romantic and borders on the hardcore I suppose, but everyone has a good time.

Tell us about your experiences as an erotica author. What have the big challenges and successes been?
It’s too early in my erotica career to have had many successes – or challenges for that matter – which is of course a way of saying I haven’t sold many yet! I did though receive some Twitter messages from a lady in the States who went into great detail as to what my stories did to her state of mind and body. That was a very positive experience for a writer new to a genre – I’d gotten something right for at least one reader.

Do you write in other genres, too?
Yes I do. I’m not going to give out pen-names or anything but it’s safe to say I’ve been writing for as long as I could hold a pencil, including a stint in magazine journalism.

Do the people around you know what you write? How have they reacted, or how would they react?
Only my wife knows what I do. I didn’t tell her for at least six-months, I wasn’t sure what her views would be, whether I would be thrown from the house or exiled to the shed up the garden. Then I was a bit sneaky. I asked her whether she was going to read that book everyone was talking about, ‘Fifty Sheds of Brown’ or something…’ Well the plan worked you see… she loved it so much she read all three books in a matter of a week or so. That gave me the courage to confess my smutty secret! She has read most of my short stories and says she enjoys them. I do think she’s a little shocked at the depths to which my depraved mind sinks though.

My family on the other hand would be horrified to discover that I had not been busy writing something for the ‘Booker Prize’, but had in fact been writing something for the ‘Stroker Prize’. I would be removed from the will without a doubt.

Tell us about your most recent titles.
My most recently completed stories are the two shorts in the ‘Erotic Adventures of Dave Everyman’ series which as I begin to describe them fills me with a fear that they are just a tad too ordinary – not a billionaire in sight – just a leaking drainpipe and an attractive neighbour… and a work’s party and oh yes… a horse-tail butt-plug…

Do you have a favourite, or favourites, among your stories?
I’m very fond of Rachel from my ‘Rachel’s Awakening’ shorts. I had great pleasure in releasing this lovely lady from her inept and uncaring husband and giving her a good time. It was also the first time I was really pleased with one of my covers – my initial attempts had been pretty appalling.

How do you normally go about writing an erotic story? Is there much, ahem, research involved…?
My stories stem from scenarios that pop into my head at random moments. I’d really, really love to say I write from life experience but that would be a big juicy lie. Maybe I’ve written about courageous heroes because I lacked the courage to be one in the real world, and maybe I write about super sexy guys and girls at an orgy because I never got my invite – who knows?

Do you have any favourite erotica authors?
Eleanor Black. I thought her ‘Dirty Little Fuck Doll’ was very courageous, raw, explicit, and honest.

And finally, what can we expect to see from you soon?
Well, I’ve missed the vampire and werewolf boom, and now the billionaire boom, so it won’t be jumping on the bandwagon to resurrect a story I started in 1995 (very pre-Twilight) about werewolves and vampires – only now they will be (get this) billionaire vampires that shag a lot! I’m only joking a little bit but I do want to write about someone who is not quite as nice and ordinary as most of my characters.

Thank you so much for the interview Polly.

Erotica extracts

Posted 22 August 2012 By Polly J Adams

Over the last year or so I’ve published a lot of erotica extracts here, but – because of the nature of a blog – older posts tend to end up buried away out of sight. So every so often I’m posting some links to those extracts, to help people find them.

Here’s another batch, with links to the extracts:

Bad Again (an explicit adult story of double penetration)
Jess has been bad again, and this is her story. Away from her husband on a business trip, she bumps into an old flame who promises to make up for his previous bad behaviour. When the offer involves not just the old flame but one of his colleagues too it seems rude to refuse… Having sex with two men at once is a fantasy for lots of women, but for Jess it is about to become a reality.

Girl Talk: Cocktails
When Jackie gets talking to the barman she doesn’t expect to start sharing intimate stories… or for him to tell her about the things he’s seen here at the bar. But once you start that kind of conversation it’s a slippery slope and it’s not long before they’re inventing an altogether new cocktail of their own.

Touched (a tale of paranormal erotica)
Ruth and the mysterious Sisters have powers. They have ways of getting what they want. When Ruth sees Saul working with the stonemasons on the village church, young, stripped to the waist, fit and tanned, she knows what she wants. And she knows she can have it. A very adult tale of enchantment and passion. The first instalment of paranormal erotica series The Touch.

Danger Fucks: XXX with my Ex
What would you do if you walked in on someone having sex? What if it was your ex, a man who still had the power to make you wet with eye contact alone? What if it was your ex with one of your best friends? Continuing her popular Danger Fucks series, bestselling author Polly J Adams revisits her own past and tells you exactly what she did.

Taken to the Edge
Handcuffed to the bed, gagged, parallel lines of red welts running down his chest where she’s clawed him… this is what he wants, this is his fantasy: tie him down, take him right to the edge, and keep him there. “No,” she tells him, “don’t you come. Don’t you dare come yet.” But does he want it all? He loves her dirty mind, but does he realise quite how far she is willing to go?

Where’s Polly been?

Posted 17 August 2012 By Polly J Adams

After a few months of high creativity, and lots of short stories published, the last month or two have been remarkably quiet for me. Anyonte would be forgiven for thinking I’d gone missing in action, or perhaps missing due to inaction.

Well I haven’t, and I’m still here.

So what’s been going on?

A combination of factors has led to my apparent silence.

First, that high level of creativiy in spring and early summer was at least partly genuine, but it was also down to a bottleneck with my publisher: I had stories queued up, just waiting to work their way through the system and be made available. This led to stories getting published at a rate of one a week, and I looked impressively productive for a time!

Around June that queue cleared, and it’s been down to me to deliver new stories.

That’s where other factors kicked in. A frantically busy couple of months ate into my writing time, and health problems added to the complications. And then I’ve been working on a new project: longer and more complex than stories  I’ve written to date. I’m very excited by it, and the first instalment is due to be revealed here soon.

So yes, I’ve been quiet, but I’m back, and raring to go!

Erotica samples

Posted 16 August 2012 By Polly J Adams

It occurred to me recently that over the last year or so I’ve published a lot of erotica extracts here, but – because of the nature of a blog – older posts tend to end up buried away out of sight. So every so often I’m going to post some links to those extracts, to help people find them.

Here’s the first batch, with links to the extracts:

Getting Real (a Campus Sex Club story)
The last thing hot young professor Will Walton expects to see from one of his students is an essay about the Campus Sex Club: a place where students and staff meet others for casual sex. ‘No holds barred, but all preferences respected’ is the only rule. Curious, he invites the essay’s author, Ella McBride, to his office so he can find out more…

Selena Does Porn
Always the quiet one, always the voyeur, when Selena starts to explore her sexuality in a porn cinema in Soho she discovers the thrills of turning the tables – not watching, but being watched. When all the men in the cinema ignore the screen and watch Selena instead, she realises she has found the biggest turn-on ever.

The Lady in White (a tale of paranormal erotica)
When Lily and Denny decided to spend their wedding night at Clovely Hall they didn’t bargain on an encounter with the ghost of a murdered Victorian bride. A passionate gothic tale of love and sex, and putting old tragedies to rest.

Forbidden Fruit (Knee-tremblers #1)
Tell me: am I a bitch? Am I a double-crossing slut? No. On second thoughts, don’t tell me. I know the answer. New girl Katie had been keeping her husband under wraps. Maybe she knew all along that I’m a bitch, a slut – maybe that’s why she’d been hiding him away. What we did that night was wrong, I know. But once you’ve tasted forbidden fruit, is there ever any going back?

Girl Talk: Make-up Sex
Karen hates it when they fight. But afterwards… well, that’s something else altogether. That’s when things get lively and Karen learns that she likes it rough, and that she will always give as good as she gets. An edgy, explicit story of passionate, rough sex.

Into Kobo’s top twenty

Posted 11 August 2012 By Polly J Adams

Lovely to see Bad Again sneaking into Kobo’s top twenty chart for all short fiction – it’s currently at number eighteen.

This is one of my favourites, and one of my bestselling stories at Amazon, too:

Jess has been bad again, and this is her story.

Away from her husband on a business trip, Jess bumps into an old flame. When he promises to make up for his previous bad behaviour, Jess is skeptical. But when the offer involves not just the old flame but one of his colleagues too it seems rude to refuse… Having sex with two men at once is a fantasy for lots of women, but for Jess it is about to become a reality.

A very adult tale of sexual exploration from the author of Bad Girls, Private Party and The Virgin and the Three Brothers. This book contains scenes of an explicit sexual nature, including cheating wives, group sex, anal sex, and oral sex, and is for an adult audience only.
